[Introduction]

The C204 is a cost effective board for applications requiring
high performance synchronous/asynchronous communications. By
combining the power of smart microprocessor with the stable integrated
communications chip technology, the C204 is capable of offering a wide
variety of connectivity demands including customer developing
protocols, large volume data transmission, response time critical
applications, wide area networking and PC-to-host communications.

The C204 is an intelligent board which features four individually
programmable RS-232 or V.35 ports. It is equipped with 80286
microprocessor and 512KB shared memory to handle the necessary
protocol processing. The C204 is designed with the Zilog's popular
85C30 Serial Communications Controller (SCC) technology. The
reliability-proven integrated chips are able to support a number of
standard and proprietary async and sync protocols including such bit
and byte-oriented protocols as HDLC, Bisync and SDLC. Speeds of up to
64K bps (RS-232 interface) or 1.544M bps (V.35 interface) are
possible. The key to offer 1.544M speed is in its DMA-to-shared memory
architecture. This also results in lower system overhead.

The C204 is contrived without any switch or jumper, which makes
installation easier since settings are software configurable. There
can have up to four C204 boards be installed in one system providing
16 ports in totality.
